I started up a Normal mode game, and played it concurrently with Hardcore. May his tomatoes continue to grow and prosper long after his death.įinished the game this morning. but man, did I jump out of my skin when the Lambent Humans first made their appearance. (And, to a lesser extent, Anvil Gate for Sam.) It's almost inevitable that we'll see one for Marcus, but I wonder if we'll also get one for Baird as well? I guess the moody, disquieting trip through Mercy is the equivalent of the Sires-housed lab facility from Gears 2.

First it was Hanover for Cole, and now Mercy for Dom. I'm liking these significant landmark visits for characters. (Like the troikas, the full-sized Corpser, and the Brumak at the very end.) In any case, this scenario is yet another reminder of how Epic has been able to keep the framerate so rock steady and fluid throughout this series.

The on-rails highway drive to Mercy was a rush, but I wish there were more points where it was actually necessary to destroy certain enemies to survive the scene. Trying to coordinate the Berzerker's leaked imulsion trails so that there was still a safe path to dive or run to was exhilarating fun - but also a bit frustrating when your squad mates were all being constantly downed at the same time. The return of the Berzerker! Death came frequently for me during this fairly brilliant boss battle. All this to the aforementioned massive sounding track "Hammer Meet Anvil." Massive music for a massive scenario. Defending Anvil Gate felt like the Gears equivalent of the Battle of the Hornburg from LOTR a complete full scale war set in the dead of the night, with a constant barrage of Uruk-hai. First, what a way to start off the chapter. Holy hell, they managed to pack in some of THE MOST AWE-INSPIRING MOMENTS IN GEARS HISTORY for this one act alone. Which isn't to say the Corpser didn't put up a fight, but her hatchlings were the more vigilant adversaries.Īnd Act 3. the Brumak seemed to put up more of a struggle than the Corpser it definitely had more of a bead on me than the other squad members. Oddly, the Corpser seemed to target me quite a lot so I don't know if that's random or deliberate. I came back, fired once and the Brumak was destroyed - obviously having taken so much damage from the others.

I unloaded my rounds into it but didn't have much ammo so I had what was a pretty leisurely stroll around looking for ammo. It didn't actually seem to target me once. that Brumak fight sort of illustrated my problem with how much of this plays out.
